"Real generosity towards future lies in giving all to the present" -Albert Camus
My therapeutic approach is an integrative one that combines mind, body, emotions, and spirit. In my view, the client therapist relationship is key to generating change. Therefore, I create and nurture a positive, supportive, and understanding environment in which my clients grow. In addition, I simultaneously model adaptive behaviors and boundaries. My philosophy is that through awareness, mindfulness, and discovery clients experience healing and growth.
Bio
I am an experienced, empathic, and versatile psychotherapist. I received a Master of Arts in Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where I specialized in Counseling Psychology. In addition to my academic training, I embraced new modalities of treatment. Soon, I discovered that emotional memories are stored in the body and that they have characteristic ways of manifesting themselves. Due to my belief in the human body's sensory intelligence and awareness, I discovered the power of movement to express emotions and to heal. My love for expression and movement led me to discover

. Through Nia intensive trainings, Nia continuing education, and
Conscious Embodiment
trainings, I have continued my professional and personal growth.
About My Clinical Practice Therapy
I provide psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families. I also offer transformational movement sessions for individuals as well as groups. In my free time, I volunteer at the Marjorie Kovler Center where I provide psychotherapy services for victims of torture.
My therapeutic orientation is based on different techniques in accordance with the uniqueness of the client. My style is open in that I employ self-disclosure with a therapeutic purpose when appropriate. I'm generous in using non-judgmental listening skills, empathy, and understanding.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy consists of different psychological techniques designed to encourage and support communication as well as to provide insight into problems. The goal is to relieve symptoms and change behaviors in order to improve personal and social functioning.
Psychotherapy helps individuals:
* Understand the behaviors, emotions, and ideas that contribute to their difficulties
* Identify and acknowledge significant life problems, such as loss, illness, death, aging, career, or divorce
* Determine which aspects of those problems they may have the ability to solve or improve
* Regain a sense of control and pleasure in life
* Learn coping techniques and problem-solving skills
Types
Psychotherapy can be given in a variety of formats, including:
- Individual -- This therapy involves only the patient and the therapist.
- Group -- Two or more patients may participate in therapy at the same time. Patients are able to share experiences and learn that others feel the same way, and have had the same experiences.
- Marital/couples -- This type of therapy helps spouses and partners understand what their loved one experiences, what changes in communication and behaviors can help, and what they can do to cope.
- Family -- Because family is a key part of the team that helps people resolve issues and feel better, it is sometimes helpful for family members to understand what their loved one is going through, how they themselves can cope, and what they can do to help.
Transformational Movement / Wellness Nia
In addition to talk therapy, some of my clients enrich their therapeutic experience through movement. One of the transformational movement forms that I employ in therapy is Wellness Nia.
Wellness Nia is an energetic and dynamic healing movement technique that combines dance, martial arts, healing arts, and somatic therapeutic techniques. The practice of Wellness Nia is an essential path in gaining flexibility and control. The movement of Wellness Nia can be used symbolically to access emotions, release anxiety, or increase body awareness. At the same time, it is a powerful form of communication. Wellness Nia offers the joy of practicing "free dance," which stimulates your own, unique creativity.
The Nia Five Stages of Self-Healing
"Every single day, without exception, make at least one attempt to open yourself to seeing life, as it really is - a work of art. When you do this, you will begin to Dance Through Life as if it were the only possible way of living."
-Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas, Nia Founders
The Nia Five Stages of Self-Healing is another transformational movement form that I employ in therapy. This is an integrative practice based on the five stages of human development: embryonic, creeping, crawling, standing, and walking. When practiced, these stages facilitate optimal alignment of the body that, in turn, improves its function and increases comfort.
The Nia Five Stages assist the reclamation of mobility, flexibility, strength, agility, and stability. Practicing The Nia Five Stages of Self-Healing uses the body as a powerful resource for self-awareness.
